Dear Parent or Guardian, Your child has been invited to participate in the Achievement Advocate Program. This online mentoring community carefully matches your child with an advocate or coach to help support them as they build their skills for increased achievement and success. Since this is an online experience, students and advocates never meet. Each week they will exchange messages and complete activities including writing book reviews, reacting to news stories, setting goals, exploring careers, keeping a calendar, and learning about how leaders in many fields took steps toward success. The content has been specifically developed to educate, inspire, and entertain your child. Each time a student writes a message or completes an activity, they earn achievement points towards awards. The advocate’s job is to provide guidance to help your student excel. More information about this opportunity can be found at the web site: www.achievementadvocate.org A very important, though indirect, result of mentoring is improved family relationships. Research has proven this happens whenever students establish a positive relationship with a mentoring adult. Through an Achievement Advocate mentoring experience your child can expect that a mentor will listen and respond within 48 hours. The mentor will assist your child in solving problems that relate to school situations, homework challenges, and in setting goals that lead to achievement. Mentor and student working together will complete Achievement Advocate activities and earn achievement point awards. Volunteer advocates are capable and qualified adults from outside your state who undergo an in-depth criminal background check. In addition, advocates are carefully supervised by an educator located in your area who monitors all interactions between your student and his or her advocate. Please sign the following permission slip and have your child return it to school as soon as possible so they can sign on and get started.
